A chemical engineer, Attorney at Law, and former executive for pharmaceutical and biotech research consulting firms, Irwin now focuses his professional practice on representing clients in patent, trademark, and other intellectual property matters, with an emphasis on patent prosecution and complex patent litigation. He also advises clients on challenging the validity of patents before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and defending clients’ patents.

His ability to provide clients with high-value intellectual property counsel is enhanced by his engineering background, which includes several years working as a licensed professional engineer, working for pharmaceutical companies, and high-tech industry consulting firms. This technical experience enables Irwin to handle patent matters across a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, chemical, mechanical, and life-science technologies, including cellular biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceutical, veterinary applications, software, and polymers.

David is a nationally recognized Intellectual Property lawyer and registered patent attorney, handling patent infringement disputes in federal district court, and at the International Trade Commission, patent office proceedings such as inter partes reviews and reexaminations, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. His experience as both a patent litigator and patent prosecutor has enabled David to successfully challenge and defend patents under the America Invents Act before the USPTO.
